We started in Ogunquit, Maine in 1982, which explains why we do our seafood so spectacularly well. Originally called the Char-Bar, we eliminated the B.B.Q. to concentrate on one primary category, the seafood, with burgers, hot dogs and the wonderful 100% Angus Philly Cheeze Steak for those who don't eat seafood. Hence the names: Doogie's & The Clam Digger. It's all about the food.
It's a love affair with really good food. It's an e-mail club as much for schmooze as it is for doing deals. It's sassy casual. It's a little slower paced, and a bit home-spun, because we really do treat the customers like customers. We even call them by name.
The secret to success is to do just a few things, but do them very well indeed.
Rachael Ray magazine says we have "the #1 grilled hot dog in the country". We sell what we call Dare-To-Compare cheeze burgers, char-grilled to order and served any way the customer likes it, from red to dead.
